Tour operators ask government for better infrastructure

Tour operators in Uganda have come out and asked the government to work on the poor roads that lead to tourists sites. They have asked fro the construction of more roads and restore those that are existing as a way of improving on the accessibility of the tourism sites across the country. They say that Uganda’s tourism sector has the ability to improve and become just as good as that from the neighboring countries but this potential is buried by the failure to open up new tourism sites where tourists can visit and therefore bring in more money.

According to the operators, the existing road leading to the tourism sites are already too poor given that fact that they have outlived their lifespan and so they need to be renovation.

Barbra Adoso who is the vice chairperson of the association of Uganda Tour operators said during the tourism forum at Uganda museum in Kampala that the traffic congestion and the poor roads also make business difficult and more costly that is why it is important that the government embarks on building more and wider roads.

This forum was organized under theme, “Uganda has received a number of international accolades in the past few years, how has the country made use of these accolades to foster growth in the tourism sector” And here operators pointed out that although the Uganda received a number of international Accolades in tourism, Ugandans have not used this opportunity to widen on the market search for the sector across the world.

They also asked the government to work with the private sector as they strive to find market for Uganda’s tourism attractions to the world and advertisement may be the best way to go along side participating in global tourism fairs and improving significant infrastructure. It is important that Uganda identifies other attractions that countries don’t have and market them as our unique tourism identity that is the only way Uganda will be able to attract tourists from other countries so said Lyazi Vivian who is the principal tourism officer and spokesperson of the ministry tourism, wildlife and antiquities.
