When you arrive at the airport in Kigali, our guide from AA Safaris and Tours limited will be there to welcome you, brief you and drive you through Kigali which is the capital of Rwanda to Parc Nationale des Volcanoes. The voyage to the north passes through the gorgeous terraced hillsides that display much of Rwanda’s landscape, slowly move down to the bottom of the breathtaking Virunga volcanoes; at times five peaks can be sighted. After breakfast, the guide will pick you up from your lodge and take you to the starting point which is the ORTPN. While there, you will be briefed by the ranger guides and allocated families to trek gorillas before you start the trek in Parc National des Volcans.
Gorilla tracking in the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga is such a wonderful experience that no one should ever miss the chances of seeing gorillas during this adventure is a guarantee and all that you need is being Physically fit as the trek may be strenuous since you have to walk for long hours. Once you meet the gorillas, you will take an hour with them, taking pictures before returning to the lodge.
Because you can not predict how long it will take you in the jungle before you see the gorillas, you will have to carry a packed lunch with you to the jungle and have some sort of picnic lunch. The tracking may take between 3-10 hours and during the rainy season, the tracking takes longer hours. After tracking, you will return to the lodge for dinner and sleep over
On this day, you will go for another gorilla tracking exercise after breakfast, you will proceed to the headquarters and start another gorilla tracking expedition in Parc National des Volcanoes. The experiences are never the same so one may be more interesting than the other. This may be your chance to see what you missed finding the day before.
On encounter of the gorillas, you will spend an hour with them like before. Return to the lodge afterward and afterwards if you still have some time, you will visit Ross Carr’s orphanage, and interact with the local school and community projects. Return for dinner and overnight at your lodge
In the morning, you will have breakfast and then leave for Kigali. The drive takes about 3-4 hours and when you get to Kigali, you will go for the Kigali city tour which takes you to the Kigali genocide memorial centre where you find the graves of all the people that were killed during the 1994 genocide, the tour also includes visiting the market, a pottery project, handicraft shops, the Franco-Rwandan cultural center. You will enjoy your lunch and later on in the afternoon, you will have time to relax.
