NKURINGO GORILLA CAMP & HAMMERKOP BUNKHOUSE

HomeNKURINGO GORILLA CAMP & HAMMERKOP BUNKHOUSE

Nkuringo campsite facilities are basic with 5 simple twin bedrooms, 1 twin bed banda, paraffin lanterns, two bush showers, and pit latrine toilets. There are several camping terraces for those looking to camp. The campsite has a cook and a small restaurant where visitors can have simple meals prepared. Foodstuffs are all bought from the local vicinity to benefit the community. For those self-catering an eating shelter is available for cooking and food preparation.  Hot water is arranged for bathing but please note that water is rare in Nkuringo by the campsite and bunkhouse sitting on a ridge some 700m above the Kashasha river. Porters deliver water from the river for visitors when rain water harvesting from the roofs of the bunkhouse and cottages is not sufficient to provide for demand.

At Nkuringo Gorilla camp we do not have any electrical power source at the site. Provision for the charging of batteries for cameras and phones is generally possible within the adjacent Ntumgarmo trading center. We do however recommend visitors come with an additional camera battery or a provision to charge via the DC output on their vehicle if traveling with a safari operator.

Accommodation is provided at the camp for those not self-camping in one simple twin-bedded banda, our Hammerkop Bunkhouse offers 5 twin bedded rooms with shared bathroom and toilet facilities. Newly opened in January 2010 are two hand-crafted luxury cottages with en-suite facilities each with a private terrace and wonderful views.
