The CNN Travel has selected Kidepo Valley National Park located in the north eastern part of Uganda as the third best tourist attraction in the whole of Africa and because of this achievement; the national park has become one of the most sought in Uganda.
Johnson Masereka who is the area conservation manage said during the launching a new product called The Ik On Moru Engole nature walk that they anticipated an increase in the number of tourists in the next five years, the numbers may triple to from 2,700 to about 7,000 which also means that the revenue will double last year’s collection of sh466m.
Private investors can also use this opportunity and take up the available investment opportunities in the park since there are about three hotel sites waiting to be developed and needs transport services and aggressive tour operators.
Masereka also said that they intend to make accessibility to the park and movement within the park easy since the road unit is being donated by USAID, this will improve the products in place.
There variety of products, great wildlife and the UWA marketing officer, Ingrid Nyankabwa confirmed that the park has 120 lions and you can always hear them roaring from the veranda of your banda. She advised tour operators to include the national park on their itinerary when marketing gorilla tracking, nature walks and bird watching.
You will enjoy the game drive treats where you will see animals like the giraffes, elephants, zebras, water bucks and ostriches among others. Philip Akoromwe who is a ranger said that Kidepo National Park has a unique experience that cannot be found anywhere else because its vegetation cover is the closest you can get to nature in a raw form and when you go for a nature walk, you can expect to see over 460 birds, butterflies and there are interesting communities with their traditional dances for entertainment.
Those that have been to park can bear witness like Sarja Bush from Spain who said that the journey to Kidepo is so tiresome since it’s a 13-hour trip from Kampala but once there, the experience worthwhile and so would not mind recommending Kidepo to a colleague so she said.
