The Buganda tourism expo officially launched

There are thousands of people that came together to celebrate with the king of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi as he officially opened the main celebrations of his 20th coronation anniversary. The major celebrations will be held on Saturday with a grand party at Kabaka’s main palace in Mengo Hill in Rubaga Division.

While opening the celebrations, he was in company of his wife Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, their children Princess Katrina Ssangalyambogo and Prince Jjunju Kiweewa, they was received by his jubilant subjects. Upon his arrival, he planted two trees along the kabaka njagala road that stretches from Bulange, the seat of Buganda Kingdom, to his palace.
There were other people that accompanied the Kabaka among whom were the Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, Lubaga mayor Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, Omutaka Ndugwa Ssemakula, the Kampala Mayor, Erias Lukwago, Buganda ministers, MPs, clan leaders, Lukiiko MPs and leaders of Buganda counties.

From here he proceeded to the historic man-made Kabaka’s Lake in Ndeeba where there were boat races and he together with his wife enjoyed a boat ride around the tiny lake that was dug during the reign of his great grandfather Ssekabaka Mwanga II in the 1890s. Later on he drove through long queues of his excited subjects to the palace to tour and launch the Buganda Trade and Tourism Expo that has attracted hundreds of exhibitors to display their products.

At the Expo, he said that Buganda Kingdom is a major tourism destination which is strategically located in and around Uganda’s capital city, Uganda’s major tourism sites are found in Buganda therefore people should use the opportunity created by the tourism sector for their development and the development of the kingdom and the country at large.

It is important to note that this is the fifth of such events and many more will be celebrated. The Kabaka who was in a jovial mood thanked Ssebugwawo and KCCA for repairing the Kabaka Anjagala Road that is leading to his palace. Earlier, the Katikkiro called on Buganda’s youth to support efforts being made by the kingdom to promote tourism in Buganda and in Uganda.
