The Kenyan government will be merging different parastatals with the intention of reducing on the operation cost as well as improving on the efficiency in service delivery in these different agencies. Some of those that will be merged are the Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, the Water Resources Management Authority as well as the Nyayo Belt which will be merged into one single body.

Emilio Mugo who is the KFS senior deputy director in charge of field operations said that rationalization of the whole spectrum of government parastatals will be vital in making sure that there are no overlaps in roles, responsibilities and functions of the organization/ government body like the case is.

He said that the forests are the habitats for wildlife and the catchment area for all rivers in the country which means that all the activities of all affiliated departments should be merged for a more effective co-ordination. The technocrats are working on modalities of making this new arrangement work and it will soon be adopted.

Mugo was giving his speech at South Marmanet forest station in Nyahururu during the launch of a management agreement for the station. And he added that the government may have to evict and then compensate all those people living at Marmanet Forest in Laikipia County, and others at the Coast and other areas to end wrangles between the communities and the KFS. This is in an effort to rehabilitation of forests in the region. Hopefully, the merging will yield better results.
